Today, on 28 September 2015, at the UN Headquarters in New York City, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met the Chief Executive Officer of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.
“I hope that our and the entire world community’s joint efforts will facilitate the ensuring of stability, peace and prosperity of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan”- said the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation.
The sides highly commended the current level of relations between the two countries and reviewed the issues of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, including in the spheres of politics, security, economic, social domain, energy, transport, education.
Much attention was focused on the implementation of regional projects for the construction of railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan, preparation of basis for construction of railway China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran and CASA-1000 power transmission line from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The meeting parties have also had a constructive dialogue concerning the security issues, in particular in ensuring peace and stability in the border areas between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, and the joint fight against the elements of terrorism, extremism, and illegal drug trafficking.
