President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during his working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium in Brussels has met with EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EU Commission Federica Mogherini.
The issues of development and expansion of relations between Tajikistan and the European Union were discussed.
"Tajikistan strives for strong, long-term and mutually beneficial relations with the European Union", - said President Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation.
In order to improve relations, the two sides stressed the need for productive activity of mechanisms of cooperation with the European Union, including the Council, the Cooperation Committee, Committe on interparliamentary cooperation and Human Rights Dialogue between Tajikistan and the European Union.
Also, it has been expressed satisfaction with the efficient operation of High-level Dialogue of the EU-Central Asia on security issues, as well as the fight against terrorism, religious extremism, radicalism, illicit drug trafficking and other modern threats and challenges.
A constructive exchange of views was also held on the possibilities of cooperation in economic and energy spheres, regional security, the situation in Afghanistan and other issues of cooperation.
