Leader of the Nation Receives World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia and Executive Director of the Wolfensohn Center for Development

Today, at the Palace of the Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency EmomaliRahmon receivedLilia Burunciuc, the World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia and Johannes F. Linn, the Executive Director of the Wolfensohn Center for Development.

A wide range of issues related to the effects of the global financial crisis on the national economies and a way of addressing these problems have been discussed during the meeting.

Head of State Emomali Rahmon emphasized that “we highly appreciate the significant contribution of international financial institutions to the development of national economy and consider useful the applicationof their experience for further economic growth”.

It was expressed confidence that the development partners and friends of the Tajik people would continue to play an effective role within the framework of the strategic priorities of development in reducing the negative impact of external factors on the national economy through the support of the state budget, social spheres, and transport and energy infrastructure.

The sides also exchanged views concerning anti-crisis measures taken by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, which envisage strengthening of the competitiveness of the national economy, creation of favorable basis for further development, ensuring national priorities, improving the well-being of the population, and targeted implementation of the Medium-term Program of Development of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2016-2020 and the National Strategy of Development of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030.
