Meeting with the Commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph Votel

On May 11, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with the Commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph Votel, who has arrived in Tajikistan on a working visit.

The Head of State Emomali Rahmon and General Joseph Votel discussed current matters related to Tajikistani – US cooperation and its prospects, primarily security cooperation, and exchanged views on the key regional and international issues.

The discussion focused, in particular, on topical issues of further strengthening of common Tajik-Afghan border protection, taking efforts to jointly address modern challenges and threats facing the world, especially terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and cybercrimes.

In this context, the Leader of the Nation stressed the importance of Dushanbe High-level International Conference on “Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism”.

The sides also discussed the alarming situation in Afghanistan and stressed efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in that country and ensuring its safety as soon as possible.
