Meeting with Emperor of Japan Akihito

In the framework of his official visit to Japan, the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on October 5, 2018, held a meeting with Emperor of Japan Akihito.

The two leaders discussed the results of long-standing bilateral friendly cooperation in the interests of strengthening bilateral Tajikistani-Japanese relations.

It was emphasized that Tajikistani-Japanese relations have entered a new stage of comprehensive development, i.e. to date, both countries have implemented over 420 social projects totaling $ 350 million.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the present and smooth development of the Tajikistani-Japanese relations in the areas of economy, trade and humanitarian fields and agreed to continuously expand cooperation in this direction.

Particular attention was paid to the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of finance, attracting Japanese investment in the economy of Tajikistan and implementation of joint projects in the private sector.

The head of our country Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to the Emperor of Japan for his assistance in training young Tajik specialists in educational institutions of Japan within the framework of bilateral cooperation programs in the field of education.

During the discussions on international affairs, it was considered important to continue joint efforts to prevent and counter terrorism, extremism, transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, ensuring regional security and strengthening border control taking into account the difficult situation in Afghanistan within the framework of "Central Asia +Japan" Dialogue.
