Meeting with the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah

The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah. The meeting took place in the Palace of the Nation on December 22.

The current state and prospects for developing cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan were the subject of the discussion.

While welcoming the inter-Afghan peace talks and the first session of National Reconciliation Council, President Rahmon voiced his commitment to the process of achieving the long-awaited peace in Afghanistan.

“Constructive peace talks will yield positive results not only for Afghanistan, but also for all countries of the region and the world," said President Rahmon.

While exchanging views on activities of terrorist and violent extremist groups that pose a threat to the stability in Afghanistan and other countries, the two sides agreed to reinforce their joint efforts to fight terrorism and extremism in all its forms.

The officials noted that regular political dialogue between the two countries is an important factor in resolving key issues.

Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, they noted the vital importance of  projects of regional significance which aim for the creation of new transport and transit corridors between the countries.

In the context of cooperation in countering the spread of the coronavirus infection, a proposal was made to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of health care.

The Tajik side expressed its readiness to enhance cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture, arts, information and social activities.
