The Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde.

Current issues and future prospects of collaboration were the main items of the meeting agenda.

Expressing his satisfaction over the current status of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank, President Rahmon noted that over the past 28 years of partnership the WB has financed the implementation of more than 110 projects of vital importance in Tajikistan totaling $2.2 billion in the form of grants, soft loans and trust funds.

Anna Bierde mentioned Tajikistan's significant opportunities in the production and export of clean and renewable energy, and reaffirmed the support of the World Bank to Tajikistan's contribution to the global agenda related to climate change.

The World Bank is currently financing 23 projects totaling $ 1.2 billion.

Bierde stressed that the World Bank remains committed to supporting Tajikistan, as its leadership and the government strive to improve the lives of the people and meet the needs of young and growing population.

While exchanging views on the situation in Tajikistan during the pandemic, its impact on the economy, and cooperation between Tajikistan and its development partners on the prevention of infectious diseases and elimination of the consequences of the disease, President Rahmon expressed his hope that the World Bank will remain a reliable partner in this sensitive period, and will continue the implementation of further government plans to eliminate the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and ensure sustainable development.

The two sides also discussed promising areas of cooperation with an emphasis on energy, Tajikistan’s budget support, as well as attracting more funds of the International Development Association to the economy of Tajikistan.

They also exchanged their views on the direct impact of the political situation in Afghanistan on the economic and trade security of the region.
