Telephone conversation with the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres

Today, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, had a telephone conversation with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

The interlocutors discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations, including on key international issues, particularly ensuring comprehensive peace, stability and sustainable development.

The Head of State stressed the readiness of Tajikistan to continue to strengthen cooperation with the UN and its structural institutions in advancing the global agenda, especially in matters of water and climate, combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other manifestations of cross-border organized crime.

The parties exchanged views on the current situation in neighboring Afghanistan. The Leader of the Nation stressed that the international community should continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the long-suffering people of Afghanistan and not leave them alone in the current difficult conditions. In this regard, the readiness of the Tajik side was expressed to make its feasible contribution to this process, including by providing the country's logistics capabilities to provide such assistance.

The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, noting the important role of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, expressed the hope that the Organization and its relevant structures would continue to pay the necessary attention to the Afghan problem.

The parties agreed to continue contacts in order to discuss these and other issues of interest.
