On August 26, at the Palace of the Nation, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, received the President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly Abdullah Shahid.
At the meeting, a wide range of issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations and its structures was discussed.
The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized the effective role of the United Nations in international affairs, especially in ensuring sustainable development and establishing peace and stability.
During the meeting, the parties considered issues related to the implementation of the 2030 Global Development Agenda, sustainable development goals and the current situation of the planet.
Emphasizing the importance of continuing fruitful and multi-vector cooperation with the Organization, the Head of our state expressed satisfaction with the use of its platform for presenting creative initiatives and global goals of Tajikistan.
The special contribution of Tajikistan to the promotion of the Organization's programs and their implementation was underlined.
During the meeting, the issues of creating the United Nations Global Group to respond to the food, energy and financial crises, holding the "Transforming Education Summit", "World Social Summit", "Our Future Summit" and advancing the United Nations water agenda were considered.
Attention was also paid to the problems of climate change, natural disasters related to water, warming air and melting glaciers, which annually cause great financial and material damage, and the question was raised about the need to declare 2025 the International Year for the Protection of Glaciers, the establishment of the "International Glacier Protection Fund" and the announcement of the "International Day for the Protection of Glaciers".
The parties considered it necessary for the joint cooperation of the Member States of the Organization in the fight against terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
In the course of the discussion of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan, it was deemed necessary to have broad and practical cooperation of the international community, including the continuation of humanitarian assistance to the population of that country.
The Tajik side stressed its readiness to widely use its material and technical capabilities to provide such assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed other issues of interest.
