On September 12, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, received at the Palace of the Nation the Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova.
The meeting discussed issues of cooperation in various fields, including inter-parliamentary relations between Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.
The President of the country, Emomali Rahmon, emphasized: “We attach constant importance to the gradual development of interstate cooperation with the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
Satisfaction was expressed with the good traditions of friendship and cooperation between peoples, reliable political dialogue between countries, including at high and top levels, inter-parliamentary relations, expansion in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, in the direction of education, the allocation of quotas for Tajik students and providing material assistance to Tajikistan during the pandemic.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of intensifying the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation and the adoption of the Action Plan for Economic Cooperation until 2025.
At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the expansion of cooperation between the countries in the promising area of industrial cooperation, the implementation of projects in the mining and processing industries, cooperation between TALCO companies of Tajikistan and Azeraluminium of Azerbaijan.
It was considered necessary to strengthen cooperation in the areas of agriculture, investment, transport and communications, restore direct flights between Dushanbe and Baku, and develop tourism.
During the discussion of international cooperation, including within the framework of the United Nations, attention was drawn to the issues of supporting Tajikistan’s global initiatives on water at the United Nations General Assembly, Tajikistan’s support for the priorities of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship in the Non-Aligned Movement, the creation of a Contact Group to Combat coronavirus and during the chairmanship of Tajikistan in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, proposals for an initiative to consider Azerbaijan's request for observer status in this organization.
A fruitful exchange of views on other issues of interest concluded the meeting.
