Participation in the regular CSTO Summit

Today the regular summit of heads of state of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation has been held in Moscow of the Russian Federation.

The presidents of Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan and other officials have gathered here for participation in the regular summit.

The issues of cooperation in the framework of this organisation have been at first discussed at the tete-a-tete meeting of heads of state.

The Head of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during his speech paid special attention to situation in Afghanistan and its negative impact on the countries of the region, as well as stated that “CSTO member states should effectively cooperate with relevant structures of Afghanistan itself for fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and strengthen the activities of these bodies”. The experience of Tajikistan in training of personnel for security, defence and law enforcement agencies of Afghanistan and facilitation of socio-economic reconstruction and restoration of its transport and energy infrastructure has been called exemplary.

The heads of organisation’s member states paid particular attention to support by Tajikistan of strengthening protection of long border with Afghanistan, mainly through preferential military-technical assistance to border troops and training of personnel in this sphere.

This summit has been considered as one of the most fruitful meetings.
