The meeting with the President of the EU Council Herman Van Rompuy was a central event in today's programme of the visit of the Head of Tajik State Emomali Rahmon to Brussels.
During the meeting, President Emomali Rahmon in particular stated: "The European Union is among the first five trade partners of our country according to indicators of exchange of commodities".It was expressed confidence that this indicator will increase in the years ahead, as the accession of Tajikistan to the World Trade Organization and other fruitful factors will favor this process.
The President of Tajikistan expressed thanks to the European Union and its relevant structures for support of Tajikistan in the process of accession to the WTO.The sides expressed belief that the participation in the implementation of infrastructure projects aimed at the socio-economic development of Afghanistan will also strengthen relationships between Tajikistan and the EU.
A constructive talk was also held on continuation of comprehensive reforms in Tajikistan, democratization of the society, improvement of investment climate and on transparent and free conducting of the next elections of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It was expressed confidence that the presidential elections will indeed reflect the enhancement of democracy and civil society in Tajikistan.
