Opening of a new 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear of Norak HPP

President Emomali Rahmon today visited the largest Norak hydropower station, where closely reviewed its reconstruction works.

Initially, President Emomali Rahmon took part in the launch of complete indoor switchgear (GIS) -220 kV of Nurek hydropower plant, which has been launched with advanced European technology, made in Italy, France, Germany and Switzerland. This powerful device is located in a building with an area of ​​4 hundred square meters of land. The old 220 kV substation of Nurek served for more than 40 years, located on almost 3 hectares. Next to the new center, construction of another building, where will be located a new 500 kV GIS of Nurek hydropower plant produced by well-known European companies such as ALSTON. As a result the current 500 kV substation, which occupies an area of ​​nearly 5 hectares, will be located in a small building. It should be noted that the devices of 220 kV and 500 kV switchgear are advanced world technologies and among the post-Soviet countries, Tajikistan is the second country where its use is established. Prior to Tajikistan such technology was used in Russia. These devices have many advantages, such as ease of operation and safety, durability, energy efficiency, etc. These devices are able to work 30 years without major repairs, the cost of repair and reconstruction will be lower than previous devices.

220 kV GIS of Nurek hydropower plant was built and commissioned at the amount of EUR 25 million, 7 million of which are grant funds and 18 million preferential long-term loans of Germany.

500 kV substation of Nurek hydropower plant was be upgraded at the amount of 67 million dollars, 55 million of which are grants from the Asian Development Bank and more than $ 12 million - the contribution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
