Today, the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai paid an official visit to Tajikistan.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met his Afghan counterpart in the Palace of Nation, where during negotiations a wide scope of subjects and issues of cooperation in the spheres of politics, regional security, economy and trade, transport, energy, education and etc. has been considered.
Much attention was focused on the implementation of regional projects for construction of railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan and high-tension power transmission line CASA-1000 from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Particular discussion was held also on the preparation of bases for construction of railway China-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran and other promising projects.
Coordination and signing of trilateral trade and transit agreement between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan has been named as an impetus factor for such cooperation.
Both sides stressed the necessity of expansion of interaction between military structures in border protection area and prevention of drug and arms trafficking.
The Tajik side expressed its readiness to continue its assistance to Afghan structures to train military and border guard personnel, doctors, railway specialists and other sphere experts.
A constructive talk also took place on different regional and international issues, as well as multilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Following the talks 4 new cooperation documents have been signed between Tajikistan and Afghanistan:
-Agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of Afghanistan on cooperation in the humanitarian mine clearing;
- Protocol on introduction of addition to Agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of Afghanistan on state border checkpoints dated 27 April 2005;
- Agreement between the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan and Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan on cooperation in insurance sphere;
-Joint Declaration between Tajikistan and Afghanistan on the expansion and strengthening of bilateral relations.
During a press-conference heads of both states highly evaluated the results of today’s negotiations and named the multidimensional cooperation between the two countries as promising.
