Meeting with President of Russia Vladimir Putin

In the afternoon, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held in residence Bocharov ruchei of Sochi a bilateral meeting with the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Putin firstly thanked Emomali Rahmon for accepting an invitation and visit to Sochi for participation in the opening of Winter Olympic Games and expressed his views on the relations between the two friendly countries.

Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to Vladimir Putin for his invitation to take part in the opening of this world sports event.

Current state and prospects of friendly relations and beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia have been considered at the meeting. The heads of both states highly evaluated the results of regular session of intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and technical cooperation recently held in Dushanbe.

It was expressed satisfaction over the ratification of important cooperation agreements in military and military-technical spheres, export of oil products of Russian to Tajikistan without customs duties and simplification of conditions of stay and activities of citizens of both countries in each other’s territories.

Head of both countries stressed their interest in the development of beneficial cooperation in the different areas of politics, security defense, economy, trade, investment, education, health, employment, science and technology, and others.

Following the meeting, in the presence of heads of states of Tajikistan and Russia – Emomali Rahmon and Vladimir Putin the ministers of foreign affairs of the two countries – Sirodjidin Aslov and Sergey Lavrov signed the protocol on the exchange of ratification acts for the interstate agreement on the conditions and terms of stay of military base of Russia in Tajikistan. According to this agreement, the term of stay of Russian military base in Tajikistan is extended till 2042.

As it was noted, now a qualitatively new stage of cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia has begun. Vladimir Putin stated in particular: “Tajikistan is undoubtedly our priority strategic partner and I am glad of this opportunity of today’s meeting and talks”.
