President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received today the World Bank’s newly-appointed Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller, who arrived to Tajikistan for a first working visit.
The meeting discussed a wide range of issues of cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects of Tajikistan and the World Bank.
Emomali Rahmon at the beginning of the conversation has congratulated Cyril Muller on his appointment as a vice-president of the World Bank, and called today's meeting an important step towards strengthening of the cooperation of Tajikistan with this influential financial institution.
The head of state said: - "We appreciate the work of the World Bank in Tajikistan, as we feel its support in various areas of development, especially in the areas of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, support for the state budget, social and other priority sectors."
Cyril Muller welcomed the possibility of a meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and said that "We are well aware of the difficulties and needs of Tajikistan, including the damage caused as a result of natural disasters. The World Bank is ready to expand cooperation with your country. "
A constructive exchange of views took place on ways to effectively implement the new strategy of cooperation of the World Bank with Tajikistan in the years 2015-2018, which provides for the allocation of 250 million US dollars, mainly in the form of grants.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of attracting investments into the Tajik economy, allocation of concessional loans, grants, technical assistance, and cooperation in the implementation of small and large projects, transportation, government, economic policy, water supply, private sector, health, education and social protection.
The meeting emphasized the need for disaster prevention, to raise additional funds for the restoration and shore protection works on the rivers of Tajikistan.
A constructive discussion was held on the implementation of the CASA-1000’s power line’s project and other projects of regional importance.
During the meeting the interlocutors highlighted the significant interest in further strengthening and expanding of cooperation.
