Meeting with Minister of Economy of Afghanistan Abdulhadi Arghandival

This evening President Emomali Rahmon received the Minister of Economy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, co-chairman of Joint Inter-governmental Commission on Economic, Trade, Social and Technical Cooperation between the two countries Abdulhadi Arghandival.

Head of state Emomali Rahmon stated at the beginning of the conversation: “The development of cooperation with Afghanistan is among the most important priorities of our country’s foreign policy”.

A constructive talk has been held on different directions of bilateral economic-trade, transport-transit, security and cultural cooperation.   

It was expressed confidence that the holding of the International Celebration of Navruz and the Sixth Conference of RECCA in Afghanistan will facilitate the strengthening of atmosphere of peace and stability, as well as the socio-economic development of this country.

The sides exchanged views on the ways to fruitfully implement regional infrastructure projects for laying out power transmission lines of CASA-1000, construction of railway Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan, opening of new border checkpoints between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, increase of electricity transmission from Tajikistan to Afghanistan, construction of gas pipeline from Afghanistan to Tajikistan and other beneficial projects.

It was considered necessary to coordinate the draft of Tripartite Agreement between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan on transit trade.

The prospects of educational and cultural interaction have been named promising. As it was noted, currently 234 students from Afghanistan study in Tajikistan and more than 200 doctors from Tajikistan serve in Afghanistan.

Much attention was also paid to bilateral cooperation in ensuring regional security and stability and particularly in joint state frontier.
