Discussion of issues related to the strengthening of friendly relations and expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and India first took place at the meeting of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in a narrow format, and then continued during the official talks with the participation of delegations.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, welcoming the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed satisfaction with the level and content of the relations between the two friendly countries.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking into account the relevant importance of Tajikistan in the foreign policy of his country, expressed his confidence that his state visit to Tajikistan will play an important role in strengthening and development of relations between the two countries.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the good legal basis for cooperation between Tajikistan and India, consisting of about 60 intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents.
For the purpose of effective implementation of existing instruments and the further expansion of mutually beneficial ties the need was stressed to revitalize the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation. Recalling the fruitful results of cooperation in the fields of politics, security and energy, it was expressed confidence in further expansion of trade, economic and investment ties. Among the ways of expanding economic ties it has been named the establishment of joint industrial enterprises and participation of Indian companies in investment projects in Tajikistan.
Particular attention was paid to the development of regional cooperation, including participation in large-scale transport and energy projects aimed at the connection of regional energy and transport networks of Central and South Asia.
As a result of meetings and negotiations at the highest level have been signed 3 new agreements in various fields, including politics, education and culture.
In particular, the joint statements of Tajikistan and India to expand the partnership; Agreement on exchange of memoranda between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Republic of India on the establishment of computer laboratories in secondary educational institutions of Tajikistan; The program of cooperation between the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of India in the field of culture and arts for 2016-2018.
During the press conference, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, praised the results of meetings and negotiations and the prospects for relations between the two friendly countries. In particular, it was emphasized that "we are satisfied with the fact that between the leadership of the two countries a high level of trust exists to consistently expand bilateral and multilateral relations".
